In the morning we ran the VIR South course, which no one knew except for Brian Smith and Spencer Geswein in the Dodge/Michelin-backed Viper, and Ron Adee in his big bad truck. This was our first event with the Carbotech panther pads, and unfortuantely, I quickly learned that the pads needed to be bedded in more than what we had done since last night at Sebring. The pads were completely faded before the end of one lap, and I barely made a few corners - again using the toss and scrub technique to slow me down enough and keep me from hitting some pricey pylons. We finished 7th Overall in the morning. The afternoon session was much more fun, as I had run the VIR North course once before a few months ago in my friend Jane Ueda's Talon. It's amazing how much faster the Supra is than her Talon though, especially through the two big series of esses on this track. But boy was it fun! :) The brakes had finally improved from the morning session to my delight, although they still faded before the end of my session. The next step is to get some Hawk Blue pads, which are full race pads good up to 1600 degrees. This is of course just a band-aid for the brake problem, the truth is that a big 14" kit is what is really required to slow down this big heavy turbocharged monster :) We finished 4th Overall in the afternoon, and I really pushed the car as hard as I could. We beat the Hennessey by one second, lost to the RENNtech by 1.5 seconds, and were 3.5 seconds behind the winning Viper driven by Smith and Geswein. We headed off for Lime Rock as soon as we were done racing at VIR in hopes to get a few hours rest as there were no checkpoints that night.
